Vimochana, a registered NGO based out of Bangalore, India, was initiated in1979 to seek a just, humane and creative society rooted in politics that would lead to transformation. Vimochana (meaning liberation) strives towards making violence against women unthinkable and creating a violence free world for all, especially for the more marginalized and vulnerable communities. Apart from this Vimochana, aims at drawing in all sections of society to strive towards a world free from all forms of war, violence, intolerance and conflicts. As you know, I have been supporting various causes with my art. I make a desktop calendar every year with my charcoal sketches and help raise money for a specific cause. The past calendars were in support of Dream A Dream (2009), Sneha Nilaya (2010) and Asha Niketan (2011). This year I am supporting Vimochana. I have tried to capture the innocence, angst and beauty of womanhood in the 2012 calendar.

well.. some people out there wonder if my charcoals are computer generated sketches.. please know that, this is not the first time i'm having people say my charcoals look like a photograph or even worse, computer/photoshop generated.. it hurts a little, but then again, it goes on to show how realistic they look and i like to take it as a compliment!! :) also to answer such critics (no offence intended), i had statrted maintaining the MAKING for my sketches.. i take a photo graph every hour or so.. and finally i make a collage out of all those photos.. it will show the EVOLUTION of the work.. from a blank paper, to the charcoal tale.. so there!!!

this is the first MJ charcoal in this series.. it will be auctioned in the MJ Tribute event, happening on 25/Jul/2009 at Club Cabana, Bangalore..

"IN THE CLOSET"
This is the second MJ charcoal in this series.. "In the closet" is a song from his 1991 Dangerous album. The song, written by Jackson and Teddy Riley, is about keeping a relationship secret between lovers. It was also Jackson's effort to silence critics who questioned his sexuality. "In the closet" is an English idiom used when one is not open about an aspect of their life, particularly in regard to sexual orientation. Despite the song's suggestive name its lyrics do not allude to hidden sexual orientation but rather a concealed relationship. The Heal the World Foundation is a charitable organization founded by entertainer Michael Jackson in 1992. The foundation's creation was inspired by his charitable single of the same name. Through his foundation, Jackson airlifted 46 tons of supplies to Sarajevo, instituted drug and alcohol abuse education and donated millions of dollars to less fortunate children, including the full payment of a Hungarian child's liver transplant.Prior to the creation of the Heal the World Foundation, Jackson had expressed great interest in humanitarianism, equality and world peace. The Parable of the Good Samaritan is a New Testament parable appearing only in the Gospel of Luke. (Also known as The Good Neighbour) Jesus puts the definition of neighbor into an enlarged context, beyond what people usually thought of as a neighbor..[the parable starts here]On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to say to Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?". "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" asked Jesus. Tamara \t(a)-ma-ra\ is pronounced TAM-a-rah.. it is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "date palm".. its the Russian variant of Tamar.. Biblical: Tamar was a daughter of King David and sister to Absalom..this charcoal is a dedication to my favorite Polish Art Deco painter, "Tamara deLempicka" (Łempicka) (May 16, 1898 – March 18, 1980).. she is perhaps the most famous painter of the art deco period.. she was born in Poland and moved to Russia where she lived until the Bolsheviks arrested her husband during the Russian Revolution.. american singer-songwriter and actress MADONNA is a huge fan and collector of her work.. she has lent out her paintings to events and museums.. Madonna has also featured Tamara's artworks in many of her music videos.. other famous collectors include actor Jack Nicholson and singer-actress Barbara Streisand..Tamara was quite a prolific artist (in part facilitated by her spare simple style) and was much sought after as a portrait artist.. if you are interested in learning more about Tamara deLempicka, i highly recommend "Passion by Design" by her daughter, Kizette deLempicka-Foxhall..

(1) the messy hair!! took me 3 days to 'mess' it up this bad :D
(2) did not feel like wasting 3 days of work.. started on the face..
(3) the facial features continues..
(4) the face is done.. the backdrop too.. still hate the hair!!!
(5) the shoulder.. the brush work starts..
(6) IDEA!! an idea to recover the messy work!! use of an ERASER!!! :)

last year this day, i lost a good friend to the road – JASSI (Jasvinder Singh).. a short but valuable acquaintance!!

here is a charcoal portrait of Jassi, that i made last november.. it was signed by almost all in our team here at Microsoft.. could not gather the courage to send it to the grieving family then.. at the occasion of Jassi’s first anniversary, we have sent it to his family.. Jassi joined Microsoft in May'06 from Siemens and was nicely settling in to be an integral part of the team.. he was a good friend to a lot of us.. it is extremely sad that such a person has been snatched away from us in his prime..

this piece.. its a story of a fallen angel, a servant of lucifer.. nd he had fallen in love with an agent of God, an angel.. but those of hell and those of heaven were never meant be inloved.. so he does anything, and everything, and forces himself to fight through the tortures of Satan and repent his soul to be with his beloved angel again; to spread his angelic wings as an agent of God himself!!

emotionally nd realistically, the story behind the one symbolizes the natural desires people crave when they know it's been forbbiden of them.. thus, they want it.. nd they do everything until they have it.. It's also supposed to reveal the nature of love for a person, nd show that they'd risk anything just to be with them.. their angel of desire..

btw, the endin was intentional.. happy ending, forra change.. :)

did you know this: the earliest known pre-cursor for jeans is the Indian export of a thick cotton cloth, in the 16th century, known as "dungaree"... Dyed in indigo, it was sold near the Dongarii Fort near Mumbai. Sailors cut it to suit them.. the word dungarees, to identify heavy cotton pants such as overalls can be traced to a thick cotton country-made cloth, Dongari Kapar, which was sold in the quarter contiguous to the Dongari Killa, the fort of what was then known as Bombay (Hobson Johnson Dictionary).. The word entered English with just this meaning in 1696 (OED).. Dongri Fort was rebuilt in 1769 as Fort George, Bombay, where the first cotton mill was established in 1854.. i wish i could go back to the way things where..
putting my hand on the paper ..
and all the pain and hurt just coming out of me in simple strokes..
some say i have no more anger inside of me..
i say the anger has just started rotting me from the inside out!!
people say it’s everyone else’s fault..
the anger is mine and the effects of it i deal with..
things where better back when things where right..
though very screwed up..
at least there was some feeling in what i said..

my wish is not to forget about everything..

well, this piece explains a lot about me lately.. especially the title... 'the day i fell'... lately my life has felt like some unfortunate, dark, unexplained fairy tale.. filled with confusion, questions, hatered, and mistrust.. learning new things and loosing memory of so many old things... rather trying to.. and sometimes so predictable.. feel like i'm living a dream at times.. a nightmare of some sort.. where you know you are in the story.. you can feel it.. you know something will happen.. and you want to get out before it does happen.. but you can't because you dont know the way out of it..

as the water turns crimson..
i understand what she has to do..
stop hiding..
and get what she needs..
more crimson..

it's always startling how quickly you can set aside your own demons when someone you love needs your aid in fighting a battle of their own.. bcos suddenly, nothing wrong with you is more important than them.. all you want to do is take away their pain so the look in their eyes won't bring tears to your own.. it hurts you to see them hang their head and suddenly all you want to do is hold them close and whisper good thoughts to them.. you’d do anything.. even if all you can do is hold their hand.. or just sit by them in complete silence letting them know that you're there and you're waiting for them to be ready to share whatever they're going through with you... if all i can do is run my fingers through your hair and hold your head to my heart while the tears run from both our eyes until you're fast asleep, then that's what i'll do.. and i'll continue to until you don't need me anymore.. and then i’ll let go.. but i’ll wait.. in a world where there is no confusions.. no pain.. and then you’ll be all mine.. i’ll wait.. a new beginning.. a new life.. reincarnation..

so you say believe in women's rights.. so you say you do your part for the earth.. so you think women and the earth have made progress in the last twenty or so years.. think again - 'cus here comes roops and his chainsaw to cut you down to size..

okk... here's my radical social theory, for which, in times past, i probably would have been burned at the stake, or at least forced to live on the outskirts of good society.. you can call it Patric's Law of the Conservation of Male Anger: the level of hostility and violence against the feminine in our patriarchal system always stays the same; only its form changes.. look - dominator males are pissed.. WHY?

because all over the globe, in ways too numerous to mention, they are being prevented from doing what they are just straining at their bits to do: penetrate, dominate and destroy the feminine.. H-bombs are being dismantled, missiles are being sold for scrap, nuclear power is the last refuge of the suicidal; women in increasing numbers are being educated, refusing to serve as breeding machines, fighting back against rape, incest and battering; people everywhere are beginning to question things that only a few years ago were taken for granted-from zoos to pesticide use, from meat eating to fur wearing, from the viability of war to the philosophical basis of Christianity.. what is there to do? where oh where will the anger be released?

this is that woman.. my chameli.. a woman overwhelmed by the disempowering womanhood.. who has gone into the deep.. into her body and soul.. who has seen her own death and is reborn.. to feel, to touch, to love, to give life! she cries..

she no longer running from intimacy.. shez removed her makeup and traded it for the night.. black.. thats what the moon's face has turned for her.. dreams have become demons..

Back when i was fifteen father sent me in a dirty car
Hundred dollars to get rid of a burden which bought him a little tar
More space under the roof and one less mouth to feed everyday

wanted to do something different..
with no charcoal.. no.. it was getting monotonous up here..
was watching "Joe Versus The Volcano".. tom hanks..

had this face in mind.. the hair covering the better part of it..
i have never been aware before how many faces there are.. there are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several..
sat down yday to work on this.. but guess what.. the black color had dried out completely.. the closest substuitute available was a 100ml carbon black, fabric paint.. and a size 8 brush.. this is the best i cud do with that..

In Cameron’s story we are not told if the Blue Diamond has some magical power? Old Rose doesn’t share her secrets. We wonder, if there was a curse on the "Titanic"? Otherwise, why were all the holders of that stone deprived of what they loved most? Was it true that the Great Blue Diamond couldn’t stand competition? Did The Stone destroy the admired "Titanic" and the artist who preferred the temporary beauty of an alive woman to its frozen beauty? Did the same Blue Diamond save the woman who, in a sense, betrayed her love by keeping the stone?

Never before had a painter taken such a purely sensuous interest and delight in the physical qualities of his medium, nor granted it a greater measure of independence from the image..

He was also a master of illusions.. "Mother and Child" my favorite among them.. herez my adaptation of the Mother and Child.. I know you still searching for the mother and baby in this painting.. try hard.. it aint that tough.. the frame is my design as well..

She's a beautiful actress who epitomizes class and grace, all the more reason she was crowned the Most Desirable Woman in the World in 2003..At the risk of sounding cheesy, if an angel were sent down to Earth, it would look like Charlize Theron... She is perfect, and we have yet to find a woman who shares her natural beauty... Charlize is a goddess, although she didn't need an Oscar or Golden Globe to make us notice her unmistakable beauty... the second charcoal towards my "gods goddesses and myths" series.. luv ya lady theron...
